The unfortunate thing is that being fat and obese is rather becoming the norm rather than the exception. Many countries are facing the problems of having a large obese population. Many of those having weight problems follow free weight loss advice from different sources, but unfortunately many free and paid weight loss tips are not very effective. Being obese means being prone to various medical conditions and being more at risk to developing certain types of diseases. Unfortunately, losing weight is not something that can be done overnight. Losing weight usually requires changing your lifestyle. However once the change of lifestyle has taken place then losing weight does not have to be difficult at all.

Reducing your fat intake

Cutting down on your consumption of junk food and sweets is the best and fastest way to lose weight. Losing weight is like mathematical formula, in order to lose weight you need to burn more fat than the fat you consume. So how can you expect to lose weight if you continue eating high sources of fat (like junk food) or foods that are most likely converted to fat (like sweets)?

Eating healthy food

The body needs a variety of foods in order to get all the vitamins and minerals that it requires to function properly. These foods include vegetables, fruits and carbohydrates. A source of protein is also required which can be obtained from meat, fish, eggs, beans, soya and other sources.

Exercising or doing sports

Aerobic exercises (walking, jogging, swimming, biking and most sports in general) and anaerobic exercises (strength training, weight training, etc.) increase the metabolic rate of your body which leads to weight loss. Exercising on its own is usually not sufficient unless it is accompanied by a good diet.

Misconception 2 - I Am Fat Due to Hereditary Reasons

How many times do you hear the phrase that "I am fat due to hereditary reasons. My genes do not allow me to get any thinner." Yes nice excuse to not doing anything with your problem! It is true that not all people are the same and some people tend to get fatter than other people. However this is not an excuse for being fat and wanting to remain so. People do not get fat on their own. As already mentioned people do get fat by consuming more calories than the amount of calories that they burn. Having a sedentary life does not help either, if the only exercise one makes is moving his mouth to talk and eat, that will not help in burning the extra fat in the body!

Misconception 3 - You Need To Crash Diet In Order To Lose Fat

Many people are of the idea that the fastest way to lose weight is to crash diet. In actual fact this is one of the biggest misconceptions ever. Contrary to many free weight loss advice tips, not eating and doing crash diets is not the solution to losing weight. Crash dieting can get you thinner in the short term, since you are not getting enough calories with the result that your body will eat from its fat reserves. However there is a problem to this. When you crash diet you greatly reduce the amount of food intake.

Our body is built in such a way that when it realizes that it is not getting enough food, it will reduce its metabolic rate, which is the body's natural ability to burn fat. As a result, the less food you have the lower is your body's metabolic rate and the less fat will your body burn. The problem is that once your reduce your metabolic rate, it can take a lot of time for the metabolic rate to get back to normal levels. So when you stop your crash dieting and you return to your old eating habits your body will still be burning calories at a very slow rate. What does this mean? This means that after a few months of stopping your crash dieting, you gain back all the weight that you lost and possibly even gain more weight than before!
